OK, its June 1st and no ones posted a new thread, so here I go... :D

Mark, my GF and I would be really interested in that road trip to R-Speed and six flags. It would just depend on what time in August...

Neo Masamune

1st June 2003, 09:42

Everybody in the group gets to start one thread each month, lol....or so it seems to turn out. :)

We'll go ahead and meet up at Steak N Shake again this Monday evening. I'll let the guys over at the S2K board know (and I'll bump the post at Spyderchat, not that it'll do any good).

So the best they can probably do is $40 for a single pull each? I seriously can't justify that right now then, so I'll wait till I'm making more power to consider doing a dyno run.

I know we'll probably talk about this tomorrow, but whats the scoop on the 2F2F meeting?
Are we meeting up to see 2F2F on a monday night (earlier than normal)?
Where? Pleasure Island AMC 24? Muvico 21?

And is ExHondaman still coming to meet us tomorrow?

It seems the few of us that were interested in dynoing have been disappointed and lost interest. :(
I will try to dyno this week sometime, probably on Saturday or earlier. Anyone else interested?

RoadsterGuy99

1st June 2003, 12:27

Little recap from last month...

Monday meets are held at Steak n Shake off Colonial (SR 50) between the Fashion Sq mall and Colonial Prominade Mall from 8:30pm till whenever.

SRM is planning a group dyno session: Location, Time, and Price - TBA.

2F2F possible meet: Film premiers this coming Friday... are we doing an afternoon showing or evening? (Cheaper Matinee shows are best ;) )

Future roadtrip - tenative for Aug.: 3 or 4 day weekend (Fri, Sat, Sun/Mon) to Atlanta: SixFlags and RSpeed.

RoadsterGuy99

1st June 2003, 13:22

Six Flags tickets priced as: $42 per person or if we get a group of 15 or more, it'll be $24 per person. But, if we don't get a group of 15, the AAA price is $23.95.

AutoXRacer

1st June 2003, 13:39

I don't have AAA...
How many can you get at that price?

Is the R-Speed Open House 2003 on August 11th like last years?

What day would you leave? How many hours away is it? Any hotel info?

It should be really fun!!! :D R-Speed raffles parts during their open houses!! :D

AutoXRacer

1st June 2003, 13:47

  I misspelled "Orlando"!!

Sorry... :ohno:

Tony Orlando

1st June 2003, 15:39

I'm still interested in dynoing. I don't really care too much about the cost, I NEED to know what I'm putting to the wheels... :D
Tell me when + where.

-Tony

AutoXRacer

1st June 2003, 16:46

Tony, it would have to be Monday anytime before the meet or sometime Saturday morning/afternoon.
Irish Mikes is located on Forsyth and Colonial...

Let me know... ;)

Dream2Race

1st June 2003, 20:00

So how was RevItUp for those who went?

RoadsterGuy99

1st June 2003, 20:35

Didn't make it

Tony Orlando

1st June 2003, 23:13

Gerald, let's shoot for Monday, so it'll be nice and cool dusk instead of blazing afternoon heat. I get off work at 5 in Leesburg, it'll take about an hour to get to Mike's. That gives us 2.5 hours to dyno, think it'll be enough? How late are they open, BTW?

-Tony

Tony Orlando

2nd June 2003, 01:29

BTW, I'll be at work all day with no access to the internet, so I'll email you my phone #. Call me if you want to set something up for Monday at Irish Mike's, around 6 PM.

-Tony

AutoXRacer

2nd June 2003, 02:19

Thats great. I'll call Irish Mikes tomorrow asap to schedule the session. Email me your number so I could confirm...

Barebels

2nd June 2003, 07:28

Rev it up wasn't too bad. If youv'e never auto x before(like me) you'll enjoy it alot. Was able to test drive the Mazdaspeed Protege, Mazda 6(obviously),Protege5, and the Miata.
Learned some things @ the driving clinics to improve my skills.
But the track sessions were the best.
The worst: the lines for the clinics.

Hi,
I have been lurking on the board for a while now. Just purchased my Miata 3 weeks ago. Have been going nuts trying to make it to one of your Monday night meets. Something keeps coming up. I finally have everything out of the way and hope to make it tonight!

Hey everyone, not sure who still plans on attending Sebring this weekend, as a few cancelled their plans. Instead, come out to the MSCC autox at Palm Bay on Sunday! It's closer and cheaper! :D I'm designing the course too, so it will be Miata-friendly! ;) And since many will be in Sebring, turnout should be fairly slim, so we'll have LOTS of time for fun runs!

Bring money, sun block, and Miatas!

Apparently, the two that did dyno, weren't to happy with the results of a Clayton Dyno... a comparison needs to be done with a DynoJet dyno... the only one I know of is at Secret Services

a comparison needs to be done with a DynoJet dyno... the only one I know of is at Secret ServicesThere is also Garage Advance behind the dodge dealership on West 50. They have an in-ground Dyno Jet dyno. I had my S2K baselined there it was like 50 bucks for 3 pulls. 407-509-0296.

It was nice meeting you all last night I had the red S2K in the corner that was parked facing the wrong way :) .

Just got reply from Titan, they quoted me 2 runs for $50, 3 runs for $60, and per hour rate is $75 hr, per hour w/wideband is $95. The dyno room is not completed but the dyno is 100% operational.

I am going to dyno again some afternoon before this Sunday.

Any takers  ...

Tony Orlando

3rd June 2003, 21:26

I'm in. I can't make afternoons because of my work location, but Friday around 4:30 or Saturday morning EARLY (like 8 or 9) would be okay. I'd lean toward Saturday because of the cooler morning temps. Hopefully I'll get my updated software from VF this week, and can put down a few more ponies this time.

Street, you've got the phone # and the email, so you know how to get a hold of me. I'm just waiting for those dyno videos now... I want to hear how I sounded. :D

PAW and I are shooting for today @ 6:00pm if you're interested...? If its raining though, we'll cancel. I'll try to see if we can schedule something on Friday. Would you be definately interested?

So three cars total on Friday?

I need to confirm that with Nero first...

Okay guys, you don't wanna miss the MSCC course this weekend. It will be about 60 seconds long, fast and fun...much like a Miata course should be. I should have it on file (not sure what type yet, maybe .pdf), so let me know if you want me to email a copy to you. If it will help get some more of you out there....I'll be glad to reveal! :D

Sebring? Or Palm Bay?

Tony Orlando

4th June 2003, 19:37

Gerald, I'm in for Friday's dyno runs. Directions?

I also spoke to an experienced dyno operator, and he said that the reason the Clayton dynos show less HP is because of the double roller in the rear. One of the rollers is a "dummy", which takes power to turn, therefore reducing the amount of torque transferred to the "real" roller. A dynojet uses 1 roller, and they strap the car in the rear AND front. I think we found your missing torque. ;)

By Friday I'll have my Flyin' Miata 100 psi liquid intercooler and updated VF software installed, so hopefully I'll break 200RWHP easily.

Titan Motorsports is on the corner of HWY 50 and Goldenrod. Its across the street from SAMS. It is in a shopping center, but its the second row (in the back of the first row)...

Anyone else with better directions...?
I just know how to get there...

Phase II

4th June 2003, 21:45

An easier way to find Titan is to go into the McDonalds on 50 right before Goldenrod intersection heading east bound it's right next to a Subway. Go into and around the side of the McDonalds like you are going to the drive through but instead go straight down the road it will lead to some industrial type buildings and a right turn you can't miss the Titan sign from there.

If you are on Goldenrod heading towards 50 then turn right at the McDonalds sign before the Eckerds there will be a road leading behind the little stip mall there. You will see the big Titan sign on a building thats where you need to go. I'll see you guys there. :)

Tony Orlando

4th June 2003, 21:54

Cool. Phase II, any mods other than the intake?

I'm pretty sure there's more than THREEof us who'll dyno, right?......Right? :)

Gerald, if you've got the video onto your computer, but can't get it through to me at Yahoo, let me know and I'll start a group where you can post it.

Easy! You'll see.

It also depends on what you consider fast. If you're someone who regularly competes in National events and ProSolo events, you wouldn't call it fast. However, like most of the guys here, if you regularly compete at sites like BCC and VCC, you can call this one "fast." You won't see 3rd gear unless you drive a 10AE, but you may hit the rev limiter in 2nd. There won't be any 1st gear stuff, let's put it that way.

I didn't receive the course map today like I thought I would. One of the co-designers was supposed to take care of it today. All who've requested will have it as soon as I get it.

Here's what you'll need to know:

1. Non-member event fee is $25.
2. Loaner helmets are available.
3. Plenty of fast food joints at the corner.
4. Sunblock recommended.
5. Miatas required.

:D

I kinda want to go to Palm Bay to compete, in all honesty...driving out to Sebring just to watch an autocross (NOT on the road course)(can't afford the $40 entrance fee) just doesn't seem as inticing anymore.

This friday I cannot come to dyno. I'm working till 6:00pm

In all fairness I'd like to go to Sebring as well.. but I'm not crazy about bore'n drive.

Palmbay sounds like fun to me.. We just need a place that we all can meet up now..

Phase II

5th June 2003, 11:24

Well Neo I don't know where you work but I'm sure we will be out there for a good hour or so, depends how fast Titan is at dynoing cars, I guess...

I think i'm leaning toward palm bay this weekend. I was really hyped about running at sebring, but palm bay seems like a much better choice. Cheaper, long course, probably a small crowd, shorter drive, etc. All that, and more people will be able to compete. :D All in favor...?

Basically the Sebring event is an 80 mph slalom.

Ok.. so tomorrow is dyno day at Titan and Sunday is Palm Bay? Right??

Any thoughts to what the plans are for Monday??

RoadsterGuy99

5th June 2003, 16:55

Just realized... what if it pours on sunday?? Looking at weather.com, it's planned to rain for the next 10 days...

AutoXRacer

5th June 2003, 17:52

Auto-X in the rain? :D

If it rains, do they cancel the auto-x?
We could always plan something else... Road trip? Disney Quest? Sebring? Tarpon Springs for greek food? Light House at Lake Whales?

2F2F would be a great alternative to auto-x if all fails...

But the original plan for Monday was to all meet at Sonics and then go to Featival Bay for the movie. I would say we would have to pick a movie that started the closest to 8:00pm-8:30pm...

Tomorrow will be dyno day at Titan, I'll should-try-to be there about 5:30pm or so...

Anything else?

10AE 2344

5th June 2003, 20:24

If it rains, any WRXs and EVOs will be happy. I wouldn't worry too much about it raining, though. I pulled a few strings... :D

Shall we meet up sunday morning somewhere? Registration is 8 - 9:30 so say... 7:30??

Dan, who is she and does she have a sister?? :D

Gerald.. I'll be there as soon as I can..I may run home to let the dog out depends on if I can get out of the office on time.

Aye Matt.. wheres my Bribe(course map)??

Dream2Race

5th June 2003, 22:41

We autocross rain or shine! Don't let a little water scare you guys away. :D Besides, autocrossing in the rain is the best practice you can get, and it's lots of fun. Those of us on street tires will have a huge advantage. Last summer at Palm Bay I had the 3rd fastest wet time out of almost 100 drivers. :D

Sorry about the course map. I still haven't received it. I'll email the culprit. Guess I should have waited before I bribed everyone. :D

AutoXRacer

6th June 2003, 08:12

Any ideas where to meet on Sunday @ 7:30am...?
For you guys that have done this before, is there anywhere to sit for spectators?
Are there drink and food stands?
Details please... :D

Note: I was wondering why helmets are required if the speeds are not any faster than public roads? Not chance of flipping the vehicle, and if you did, I don't think a helmet would help without a roll bar.... Hmmmm...

 In regards to Monday night at the movies:

We are meeting a Sonics on I-drive.
 What time...?
Depends on the showtime we all decide on. It would be nice to see the 8:10pm. I think thats the best time for everyone (though, everyone should be at Sonics at around 7:30pm at the lastest to eat some quick grub-optional).
Unless we want to do the 8:30pm at Muvico...

Festival Bay Cinemark showtimes are:

Street, Helmets are for containing your gray matter..which needs the extra padding :D Even though this is a safe even accidents can still happen.

They have a air unit there or should if I recall. right Matt?? Fuel.. your choice but don't ask for me to push if you run out :D I run about half a tank.. just what ever you feel is best.

Other then that I'll see you at Titian @6ish

sunday AM meeting spot... someplace big, obvious, and on the way... how bout the win dixie on 50 just east of the 408 overpass? that way people could take 408 across town and not go out of the way to meet up. before I get ahead of myself, what is the best way to get there? I was thinking 50-->520-->95. if I remember right thats how I've done it before.

there isn't really any good place to sit, like the hill at VCC. if you're early enough you could get a spot at the edge of the "paddock" and set up chairs. maybe Matt can reserve us a miata spectating area since he'll be there so early. :D

they've had an air compressor at every autocross i've been to so far. this time i'll save the 50 cents from the gas station air pump, and they won't have one.

in regards to monday, I would prefer an earlier show than 8:30. say, sonic @ 7 or when ever you get there, movie at 8.

Dream2Race

6th June 2003, 14:03

Gerald,

I answered some of those questions in the email I sent you as well as in my post above. :D But here it is again:

1. Loaner helmets are available.
2. PLENTY of fast food joints right off campus. 60 second drive.
3. MSCC has an air compressor. If the head of the air chuck doesn't fit on your wheels (doesn't work on mine), there are gas stations at the corner with air available.
4. I usually run no more than a 1/4 tank of gas. You'll need close to 1/2 just to get there, depending on how you drive. ;)
5. Bring a chair. The entire lot is open, so you can see the whole course by sitting next to your car.
6. Since you guys are convoying and making the grande entrance ( :D ), look for my car and the silver 99 sport. Park by us. As far as reserving...if my kart team owner would be there, I could use his police tape. :p But he won't be there.

Fastest way to get there is 528 to 95. Don't use 520, it's proven to be slower. Gerardo and I have tested it.

Everyone check your mail. YOU'VE GOT COURSEMAPS!

:D

See you guys there! (BETTER BE THERE!)

Oh, I forget to mention the best reason why you should run the Martin autocross this weekend: you'll get your very own copy of the July issue of The Pit Patter, the Official Publication of the Martin Sports Car Club! :D :p

And if you continue to run our events...you'll continue to get the coolest club mag there is! See, ya can't get that from an SCCA event! :D

Really funky dyno though.. I have equal hp to tq of 109. Makes me wonder if I have more power since the S2K and Streets car dyno'd lower then normal.

on the way to work today, spotted a yellow EVO!! couldn't believe it though, driver looked 40-ish and drove it slow...

Hey Matt, if there's gonna be a lot of us running, can you create an Orlando Miata class again?

Also, Gerald, if you're running can I co-drive?? :D

Meeting place for tomorrow?? I checked on maps and couldn't really find a meeting spot right around 528/417 :( The only place I know where to meet is at 520 and I-95 at the McDonalds there... Looks like the south and west guys will meet up; and east/UCF guys will meet up... then all of will meet up at one point before Palm Bay... How does that McDonalds sound at 520 and 95?? All of us can jump to the 528 and exit off 520 and head to 95 and meeting up.

BTW, PAW it's "VTEC"! ;) :D

Dream2Race

7th June 2003, 10:39

Yeah, creating an Orlando Miatas class is no problem. It makes it more fun for all. I'll be co-driving a 99 Sport, so I'll be running DP however. Find me when you first get there. I'll probably be setting up the course.

Did anyone else have a problem viewing the course map in their email? Pete wasn't able to. If so, I can send as a JPEG attachment. Let me know.

Stay on 528 until you hit I-95 then go South on I-95. SR-520 is the second or third exit you will come to on 95.

i just went to the petsmart across the street for a fish tank filter and there is a gaggle of CRXs in front of the theatre. i'd say probably 25-30 of 'em. also a couple yellow ITRs. I was tempted to stop just to see some of the mods, but i resisted the urge. I did catch a few of 'em looking as I drove by. :p

ok, so we meet at the Mc'Ds at 520 and 95. What time? 8? Is anyone coming from the east side of orlando besides me? :( I'll be going down 520. taking 528 would be a big backtrack from where I am.

How is 528 backtracking? It's not even longer distance than hitting 520. I'm telling ya, Gerardo and I tested it. We were convoying, and he took 520 while I stayed on 95 to 528. He called me when he got on 528, and I was 3 miles ahead of him. How can a single-lane road be faster than a double-lane 75 mph highway? I'm not sure why people swear by 520. Oh well...to each his own. :D

Anyway, slight change of plans for me. Remember I said look for my car when you get there? Well, it won't be there. I've been stuck with the duty of driving a fellow member's 2003 Z06 to the event. Gee, shucks! :D :D :D wooohoooo!

the fastest way from my apartment to the 520/528 intersection is to take 520. to get on 528 from my apt. I would have to travel WEST on 408, then south on 417, then get on 528.

I agree that 528/95 is the fastest route from the 528/520 intersection to the 520/95 intersection.

In summary, best route from UCF area...

50 --> 520 --> 528 --> 95 --> Mc'Ds at 520 exit --> palm bay ;)

p.s. 520 does suck. If it wasn't out of the way, I'd much rather drive 528 than that rough pavement crappy constructionafied two lane wagon trail.

Hey Matt,

Just wondering... you'll cover my event fee? (from awhile ago...)

Dan, I'll be coming from Goldenrod and University and heading toward 408 -> 417 -> 528

How far (time wise) is Palm Bay from I-95/520?? What time will everyone have to meet there in order to get to Palm Bay in time for registration??

Dream2Race

7th June 2003, 19:10

Ouch, I new that promise would hit me at a bad time. :D But I'm a man of my word. You're taken care of. See me for the check before you register.

BCC is about 20 - 25 minutes from 528. Since you need to register by 9:30--and don't forget about tech--I'd shoot for a meeting time of no later than 8. That will give you an hour to register, tech, and walk the course.

See everyone there!

Racer46

7th June 2003, 19:12

From the 520 I-95 exit it's still about 25 miles to Palm Bay. Registration is from 8:00 - 9:30 with the drivers meeting @ 10:00. If we left McD's at 8:00 we would have plenty of time.

Great day, I had a blast.

I don't remember who was talking to me about Snell SA95 helmets, but MSCC doesn't care what the rating on the helmet is so as long as it's in good shape you could use it forever. SCCA will let you use it for another 7 years not the 2 that you thought. They still allow Snell 90s and probably will continue until the 2005 rating comes out. That means that your SA95 should be good until 2010. :D

Bad service at Steak N Shake? That's nothing new!

Gerald, they were handing out the trophies right in front of you when I was announcing the class winners! ;) You can pick it up at the next event. Make sure you get with me and I'll point you to the trophy chairman.

Mark, event info (including directions to the new site) will be in the Pit Patter, which will be mailed out Friday of next week. The address is 13000 Frankies Road in Tavares, if you want to do MapQuest. It will prolly tell you to take 408 to 429 and spend lots of money in tolls. But from our area you can take 417 to CR 46 at the Seminole Town Center, and take that all the way to 441.

BTW, your name is spelled wrong? Funny thing is it was spelled wrong initially, and I had the webmaster fix it. Or at least I thought it was spelled wrong! DOH! Sorry dude! Email me your last name and I'll fix for the Pit Patter. :D

Pete, you would in fact be tied for 1st in ES if you were a member. However, must be an MSCC member to accrue points.

The new MSCC site is actually a closer distance to Orlando, mileage wise. However it takes about the same amount of time to get there because you have backroads to travel (depending on which route you take) and stoplights to get thru, whereas BCC is a stop off the highway.

10AE 2344

11th June 2003, 23:16

sounds like autox fever has struck everyone! :D I looked up the new MSCC site on yahoo and it's 50 miles from me! :( they claim 75min drive... worse than palm bay. oh well.

WOW Mark, where'd you get all those videos! are they in english? Unfortuantely I don't think I'll be able to make it to watch them, cause this weekend I'll finally be moving into my own place. :D I'd throw a miatas/videos/new apartment party but my 19" tv is 30 years old, I have no VCR, and my ps2 is my dvd player. Unless... (idea!) people want to come over saturday, help me move some of my crap :) (between apartments in the same complex), then we can watch videos in complex' theatre. It's got about 30 theatre seats and a 65" TV (or something huge) with surround, dvd, cd, cable, blah blah. We could even cook stuff on the gas grills by the pool. :D For people who haven't seen it, my apartment is kinda like disney world. I'll have pretty much all day friday to move stuff so if I bust my a** I might be able to get most of it done then if my friend with the pick-up shows, as planned, to help with furniture. I'm not trying to hijack the party, I just thought it would be an ideal place. :) I'll probably be down in the theatre all weekend anyway. I just realized this weekend is the LeMans 24, CART Laguna Seca, Rolex Fontana, Indy Pikes Peak, and F1 Canadian GP. Holy jeeze! My head is spinning!

p.s. can you say a** on here or will you be executed?

LOL! Actually that would be fun to do this weekend...well except for the moving part, but it's fun when a bunch of goofballs get together regardless of what we're doing. :D But I'll be in JAX on Saturday, so I can't do it. But....a race day cookout sounds neato to me! I'm all about the CART race!

So Mapquest estimated 75 minutes from UCF area? I made it in 50 minutes taking SR 46 to 441 to XXX to 561, all roads complete with traffic and stoplights. And you and I live right by each other. Mapquest gives good directions (most of the time), but their time quotes are ALWAYS exaggerated. They don't understand how fast us Miata drivers get to our destinations! :D

PAW467

12th June 2003, 09:48

Street.. once your out of Novice. Your going to be in D (class) Prepaired (DP), meaning the car has modifications other then stock.

My only concern is you may have to run DR (Race) due to your recent mod's

You may want to e-mail Matt. And discuss it further :D

Dream2Race

12th June 2003, 10:28

Gerald,

The rule is if you win Novice class, you have to run with the big boys in whatever class your car falls into. Like Patrick said, it will most likely be D Prepared. If you don't win Novice, you have to run Novice for 3 events before you can move out of it.

Email me a list of ALL your mods, even if it's removing a door panel, and I'll see if you'd be in DP or a Race class.

Looks like you'll be in Race category, but I still haven't heard from Bob. I'm not sure exactly what class either. You may stay in D, but you may get moved down or up. I think it usually takes an upgrade in aspiration ( ;) ) to be moved up a class within a category. Don't worry though, you won't be against any Vettes. ;) As far as being the only one in the class...that all depends on who shows up to the event. You could have 10 other people in your class or none. The first 3 months of this year, I was the only person in D Stock. How boring.

I got out the rule book. As long as the one that's online is correct, you would be in B Race. The good news is that the only cars in B Race are the ones that were in D & E prepared. If you slap a turbo on it you go to A Race. Your car would also be legal for Street Mod or Street Mod Stock, depending on your tires.

Weeellll... Just got done watching "The Hulk"... Save your money!! I haven't seen DareDevil yet (having received bad reviews); but, this is by far the worst movie interpretation of an awesome Marvel comic... I'm disgusted.

On a side note, when I was at Regal the other day for a Microsoft session, I did see a poster for "The Punisher" coming out soon (At least I think it's the punisher)... I hope this doesn't get screwed up either. (Hey, didn't Hollywood already turn "The Punisher" into a movie {early 90's} and it flopped?)

Oh, and there was a Punisher movie, starring Dolph Lundgren. Really really really bad movie. Spiderman so far has the best comic to live action translation of any movie to date, save for the first couple Batman movies (by Tim Burton).

I KNEW that the Hulk wasn't going to be all that. Everybody who's viewed the prerelease bootleg has stated it's terrible, no action till the end of the movie (it drags), and it's too cartoony.

There are some cool 350Z cars. lots of local import clubs like Jade, Fusion, ATI, Etc. There are way more cars this year than last year. I got a great spot right next to the stage floor. Dodge has a new Neon Turbo in there booth that looks pretty nice. There was a really nice Porsche with some crazy stereo stuff and of course Ultimate Audio had the 22-screens- Mini. Lots of cool JDM stuff that I'm sure you've seen around town : R33 syline, RHD Integra Type R, Silvia converts. Its just an Incredible car show.

I will not get out till 9pm, if I were to drive to SnS, I will not be there till 9:45-10:15pm...

When is the movie/video thing/day?

Has anyone been to a SCCA practice event? What should I expect? Is it the same price as the competition day($30)? How many cars usually show up to practice?

And regarding the competition day, is it 3 runs like MSCC? Do they also have fun runs? Or is that just a MSCC thing?

I wish one of you guys were going there :( ...

RoadsterGuy99

14th June 2003, 10:18

SCCA practice day is pretty cool, I forgot what the pricing was (it maybe the same as race day)... but basically you get in as many runs as you can. To my experience though, the 2 times I've gone to a practice, they ended up modifying the course on race day :(

Generally they have 3 runs, sometimes 4 runs; and generally run like MSCC did, ie: Run once each heat, then work the heat you signed up for. Sometimes SCCA will do it by Groups, where you run all your runs back to back for the first heat, then you may break for the next heat or work, then the last is vice versa.

Gerald, I won't make the SCCA event for this month, but may make MSCC's July event at the new place (and actually run  ).

BTW, LeMans 24 is on Speed now :D and Bentley has the 1 - 2 position!

Yes, scenes in the Hulk have a very comic book look, especially with the multi framing like a comic book storyboard. Just as with Aaron, Spider-man and X-Men have been the best adaptations to film so far!

What a bummer. I was looking forward to watching Hulk... :(

So, basically you line up as many times as you want? Just exit the course and reenter?
That sounds weird... Do a lot of cars show up? Is it a 10am-4pm thing?
The flyer only shows Competition schedule. Should I show up there at 8am for registration, inspection, etc...?

Oh, and I picked my numbers!!! "943" in memory of my dad... :D

Racer46

14th June 2003, 10:33

The price is the same for practice as it is for race day. Usually $20 for SCCA members $30 for non members. On race day the course is modified or run backwards so practice participants won't have an advantage. Expect 8 - 10 runs during the practice event.

Pete

Edit: There are usually two groups that each run for 1 hour. Then a lunch break and run again. If you're not running you're working.

AutoXRacer

14th June 2003, 10:35

Thanks Pete...

Will you be there? What time do you generally show up there (practice)?
Is it worth it to join SCCA? I heard its kind of expensive (approx $75)..?

Neo Masamune

I may be going to these events, however I won't go to practice day, as I'm only off on Sunday this upcoming weekend. The weekend afterwards, I am in St. Pete. So for this month, only this upcoming weekend is possible for me to Auto-X. I'll let you know my plans soon.

Sorry to hear you can't make it this Monday, but you know how late we're there till usually, and we can always make a decision to move it from Steak N Shake (which we should anyways....) to make it easier/quicker for you to get there.

Like, Sonic on I Drive, or somewhere similar.

I'll definitely be there Saturday. I may have to work Sunday.

As for worth it: You get your fourth event free plus save $10 each time you race or practice. So attend 3 races and practices and it's paid for itself. Oh, with the permanent numbers... wasn't sure if you'd have them on Eleanor like I do on Keishou, or rather just have magnetics made to be used on race day only... either way, I had both done at GraffixUnlimited... let me know if you want to have them done...

AutoXRacer

14th June 2003, 13:26

I got some magnetic panels done through edecals for $16.00 each. Its just a rectangle with a black outline and the numbers inside.
What I really wanted was this: Touring Plate (http://www.edecals.com/raceg/TPL103.htm)
With my last name...

But when I took the measurements with 8" numbers, the panel was too big for the doors. So I settled for a regular panel... :(

I tried contacting your company, but no success... :(

I know a local guy who does custom vinyl. He has done from dragons (whole car) to basic lettering for cars. He is pretty good.

RoadsterGuy99

14th June 2003, 14:14

remember how mine looked? I can get just what you want... bordered frame with number and last name.

AutoXRacer

14th June 2003, 14:29

Yeah, but don't you need 8" numbers for SCCA? The guy I spoke to said making it with 8" numbers and having the touring plate look would make a plate measuring 17" tall and 20" long which was too big for the door. I wanted something that would be contained between 1"-2" below the base of the rearview mirror and the line above the rough (chip guard) area on the doors.

Dream2Race

15th June 2003, 00:13

As far as the helmet situation...I recommend getting a full face helmet instead of an open face. You never know when you may get more involved in racing and do something like karting where you need a full face. Besides, full face helmets are a lot more safe. What's your head worth to ya?

Neo Masamune

15th June 2003, 01:20

Okay, the intake is done now....I bought a new foam filter element, cut up the tubing for the stock intake to make a 90 degree Elbow, and moved the filter to the cold side. Now I have to figure a way to get more air over there, and build a "box" around it all. The sound is MUCH better in my opinion, no bad resonations at all, or vibrations like many had feared.

Tomorrow, I get the springs installed by Dan. :)

Gerald,

Pete hit the nail on the head: at Martin you'll be in B Race, but you can also run Street Mod. There is a Street Mod Race Tire class and a Street Mod Street Tire class. If you run BR or SMRT, you'll have some serious competition to chase down. :D

Membership with MSCC is much cheaper than SCCA. It's $30 a year and event fees are $12. You must run 3 events with us to be a member. Part of being a member entails that you Chair an event once a year (you can do it more often if you choose). Chairing an event is what I did last weekend: help design course and show up early to set it up. Pretty simple. We also prefer that you attend the monthly club meeting on the first Thursday of every month, but we do understand that some people have to work etc. Some people think that there's so much involved with being an MSCC member, but really it's very simple. Since it's a "private" club, we want members to be an active part of the club rather than discount racers. Just thought I'd throw all that out there so you're aware.

If you stay in the Street Mod Street Tire class, you should be okay. Don't ever count yourself out because of your car. A couple years ago, Bob Palmblad brought out a 1992 Ford Escort WAGON, threw some Kumhos on it, and swept up HP, setting one of the fastest times of the day. It's all about the driver. Get a membership with both MSCC and SCCA, run as many events as you can, and you'll be surprised how fast you'll improve.

You can create a special class (such as an OM class which we did June 2002) with 5 cars. However like Mark said you don't accrue points, but you can still win a trophy or Martin Money.

Neo Masamune

15th June 2003, 16:59

I suppose unless we decide otherwise by tonight, we'll have to keep it at Steak N Shake.....give them another chance. But Gerald won't be able to make it there that quick. :/

Yea, 8 to 8:30 pm, Patrick

Okay, I'm gettin P.O.'d here! My RealPlayer was giving me fits so I removed the program and decided to DL it all over again. I can't find it! When I go to the main website, all I can get from there is the stupid RealOne SuperPass 14-day free trial. Don't want it. Gimme a plain ol' RealPlayer. Someone point me in right direction 'fore I get mad! (Please) :D

And I dunno, I'm thinking of buying some Rota wheels real soon, actually. But then again, who knows when I'll have the money for that, lol.

What kind of cash are we talking about here? I over heard some guy last time saying he wanted the cash instead of trophie...

Just curious... :D

Dream2Race

Martin Money works like cash. If you win a class of two or more people, you get $12 in Martin Money which covers your next event fee. If you finish 2nd you can take $7 in Martin Money. Winning a single-car class also earns $7. How much you get for your finishing position is determined by how many cars in your class. So I didn't have to pay a dime for my entry fee last weekend because I had enough Martin Money to cover it. Can't get that either at SCCA! :D

Do you feel a difference? Lost some oomph in the low end of the power band, gained a bit up top....throttle response is near INSTANT now, and the RPM band has smoothed out a little bit. Mainly, it's the sound I love the best, but I still have to get used to it all coming from the right side of the car (exhast and intake both!)

Neo,
Pictures???
Got to post them mods on your site!!! :p

Mark,
What "Waruy0i" mean. You and Neo have/had them on your cars. I was always curious to know what that meant.

Neo Masamune

16th June 2003, 14:38

Yea, need to get some pictures updated....I don't have the Waruy0i on the car right now, actually, but I am getting it cutout into the racing stripes I'm going to be getting done next :) Should look rather posh, really.

By the way translates from Japanese roughly into an action phrase, "drunken frenzy". :D

You going to join us late tonight, Gerald?

-Neo

RoadsterGuy99

16th June 2003, 14:57

'waruyoi' - Japanese - drunken frenzy

waruyoi autocrossing - drunken frenzy autocrossing :D (hence my spin out :p )

The no cones symbol for 0 in waruy0i: striving for the perfect run - no cones :D

Sooo, wanna join?! ;) :D

BTW if you come out tonight, Gerald... I have a good book for you to read :)

You guys are going to be at the UCF area Gators.
From where I'll be working tonight that will take me approx. an hour to get there.
Kind of far. :(
Sorry... :(

What book do you have Mark?

Neo, did you install shocks with those springs? I hope so. If not, your ride is going to be bouncey...

Just ordered my new helmet with a free carrying bag. :D Wahoo!!!
Helmet (http://store3.yimg.com/I/soloracerdotcom_1743_2765264)

You know, I was thinking about that the other day. About changing my screen name to Auto-xRacerMiata (ARM)...

Gerald....no aftermarket shocks, all H&R springs are progressive rate, the ride is no bouncier than it was on my stock springs....actually, it's less. I do plan on getting some KYB's when these shocks are on their last legs, though. Next mod's going to be my Waruy0i enscribed racing stripes and some strut bars :)

Pat, where is your "Waruy0i" decal?

You can't be part of a club without exposing your membership...?

Mark, can we get the "Waruy0i" in Japanese writing?

Mark, can we get the "Waruy0i" in Japanese writing? Get it in Kanji? sure :) Acutally Katakana would look better since it would be 4 characters verses just 1.

Much better in Katakana, and that's exactly what I was going to do on the hood stripes. One stripe is going to be the normal Waruy0i font, with my numbers 119 afterwards. The other stripe would have it in decention (read top to bottom, from front of car) in Katakana.

I'll show you all what I mean when I see you tonight, I'll sketch it out.

So I can put one on each fender and one on the rear or sides of my new helmet!!!

 OK...

Since I am morphing from a reckless street racer to a law biting track only racer, I will now change my screen name to: "AutoXRacerMiata"

I have been thinking about this since we raced on Sunday with MSCC...

The other day I actually turned down a street race which is very unlike me.
But since the auto-x I have found city streets to be dull and boring. The roads are too large and turn radi are also too wide.
Drag racing on the street has become dull to me since its dependent on the car rather than the driver.
:p "Drag racing is for fast car, Auto-Xing is for fast drivers." :p

LOL Mark.. only thing is I don't know French :D

I'm working on getting my Helmet as well and I'll have my Waruy0i on my helmet. Minus the OM and the eventual racing stripes that is the only thing that will be on "Demon".

You missed the fun on the way home Gerald.

All I can say is WOW!!! Tony  That was short but fun little run :D
